Daintree Rainforest
Home to the Daintree Ecolodge, the Daintree Rainforest is an estimated 180 million years old and the oldest tropical lowland forest in the world. The unique climate and history of the Daintree Rainforest has resulted in the highest concentration of endangered plant and animal species that are rare or threatened by extinction than anywhere else in the world. Meander along rainforest lined boardwalks, glimpse a southern cassowary and its chicks, be dwarfed by ferns, cruise the Daintree River for prehistoric crocodiles, reconnect with Mother Nature whilst discovering her distinct landscapes and diverse flora and fauna, stumble upon secret swimming holes and fall asleep in a treehouse (bayan) to the sounds of the wild.
Daintree Ecolodge

Cape Tribulation
If you've ever wanted to see what Australia looked like when dinosaurs roamed, Cape Tribulation is the place! Travel north of the Daintree River to a place where time has stood still (requires a ferry crossing)! An area of stunning natural beauty where the ancient rainforest collides with the iconic Great Barrier Reef. Meander along rainforest-clad boardwalks, stroll along deserted tropical beaches, 4WD along rugged terrain, take a dip in crystal-clear water holes, breathe in pure air free from urbanisation and disconnect from the hustle and bustle. Cape Tribulation hosts some of the most breathtaking coastlines in Australia, free from hordes of travellers.
Mossman
Visit the picturesque township of Mossman, nestled at the foot of the mountains and surrounded by green fields of sugar cane. There are many things to do in the town; art galleries, historic pubs, country stores and the Saturday Markets where you can sample some of the celebrated local produce. Five minutes west in the southern part of the World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park is Mossman Gorge. Take in the beauty of pristine rainforest, cool streams, towering mountains and huge granite boulders. Home to the Kuku Yalanji Indigenous people, this is one of the few places in Australia where travellers can gain an insight into the special relationship they have with the rainforest through a guided rainforest walk, traditional dance performances and artefact displays that portray their rich cultural heritage.
Great Barrier Reef
Exploring the iconic Great Barrier Reef is a must when visiting our region. Tick two natural wonders off your bucket list in one trip. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living organism on Earth and is even visible from outer space. The 2,300km-long ecosystem comprises thousands of reefs and hundreds of islands made of over 600 types of hard and soft coral. It's home to countless species of colourful fish, molluscs and starfish, turtles, dolphins, whales and sharks. Enjoy charters to nearby islands, world-class fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving adventures, luxury sunset cruises and scenic helicopter joy flights over this natural treasure.
Port Douglas
Located 45 minutes south of the lodge is Port Douglas, a tropical village nestled between the reef and rainforest which oozes barefoot vibes and sophistication. Soak up the sunshine on Four Mile Beach, discover the main streets’ shops and galleries, taste the tropics at one of the many fine restaurants, immerse yourself in the hip café and bar culture, stroll the seaside Sunday markets or explore a coral cay on Great Barrier Reef day trip.

RAINFOREST WALK – At the lodge
Discover the Daintree Ecolodge's onsite waterfall on a leisurely stroll through the enchanting rainforest on 'A Walk Through Time.' The waterfall and swimming hole is sacred to the Kuku Yalanji women; for thousands of years they’ve bathed in its crystal-clear waters for healing and spiritual beliefs. Learn about the unique and amazing plants, insects, birds and other wildlife that surround us. Much of the wildlife you will see here cannot be found anywhere else in the world, with some species dating back 135 million years. 'A Walk Through Time' operates onsite at the Daintree Ecolodge for $60 per person (bookings essential). Due to the cultural significance of the waterfall and swimming hole to the Kuku Yalanji people, only women are permitted to enter the swimming hole.
PICNIC HAMPERS
Celebrating the local providores of the Daintree & Douglas region, our gourmet hampers are bursting with local delights and tasty temptations. Order a gourmet Lunch Hamper and self-drive the winding roads nestled between the mist-clad mountains and valleys of the Daintree Rainforest and the pristine beaches of the Coral Sea as you venture to some of our favourite local hideaways. Our top recommendations for a picnic lunch adventure include Mossman Gorge, Four Mile Beach, Wonga Beach, and Cape Tribulation. Alternatively, breathe deeply the scent of the tropics and become immersed in our rich, natural paradise when we deliver a Local Hamper or Indulgence Hamper to your bayan (treehouse). Prices start at $135 for two people and can be booked by the Daintree Ecolodge Reservations Department or direct with the Daintree Ecolodge Reception (bookings essential).
DAINTREE ECOLODGE WELLNESS SPA
The local Kuku Yalanji people have named the land on which the Daintree Ecolodge sits ‘Wawu-karrba’ which means ‘healing of the spirit.’ With approval from the local Indigenous people, each spa treatment combines the wisdom of their culture, healing, medicines and spirituality. Using the pure waters of the pristine onsite waterfall and the powerful properties of nourishing botanical products, many found in the Daintree Rainforest, guests can experience a renewed sense of wellbeing with each unique treatment. YOGA – At the lodge
Vinyasa yoga classes are run from the lodge on request. Your yoga teacher will take you on a journey of relaxation to rebalance the mind, body and soul to the sounds of the rainforest around you. Suitable for beginners and people of all ages. Bookings essential. Prices are $49 per person for a 1 hour class
DAINTREE COCKTAILS MASTERCLASS
Join us at Daintree Ecolodge for an unforgettable cocktail masterclass featuring our Daintree signature cocktails and the vibrant flavours of bush ingredients. You'll explore native Australian botanicals, crafting refreshing cocktails that capture the spirit of the Daintree region. This fun-filled class will inspire your inner bartender and elevate your cocktail game to new heights. Cheers to new skills, refreshing sips and a taste of the rainforest! The class is $95 per person, including 2 cocktails and a bush tucker appetiser. Limited to 4 people and bookings are essential.
INDIGENOUS BASKET WEAVING
Learning how to make dilly bags (woven baskets) is a tradition that's been passed down through families for centuries. Kuku Yalanji artist Delissa Walker is an acclaimed Master Weaver and she learned the ancient practice from her grandmother. Today she keeps the culture alive with the use of traditional tools and natural materials that you'll only find in the narrow coastal region of tropical Australia. Delissa will teach you how to weave your own dilly bag to keep, while sharing her stories of growing up in the Daintree. The class is suitable for beginners and people of all ages. Bookings are essential (on request). A 2-hour class is $130 per person.
SELF-GUIDED RAINFOREST TRAIL
Baral Marrjanga, or the "Rainforest Trail", is 400m return. The grade is easy-moderate. Wander along the rainforest track following the creek line and climb up to the waterfall viewing deck. The waterfall is a culturally significant site for Indigenous women. The walk is a great opportunity to see a plethora of Daintree creatures. Depending on the season, you could spot the Boyd's Forest Dragons, Ulysses and other butterflies, Wompoo Fruit Doves, Azure and Buff-breasted Kingfishers, Spectacled-monarchs and more. Notable plant species include climbing pandans, woody lianes, a variety of ferns, Bowenia cycads and native nutmeg. Take a break halfway on a conveniently located bench seat to take in the sights, smells and sounds of the lush rainforest. Remember to carry water with you, wear appropriate footwear
SELF-GUIDED INTREPID TRAIL
The Intrepid Trail is 200m return. Grade is moderate. While not any longer than the Baral Marrjanga trail, this walk is a little steeper and can be slippery in wet weather. This climb takes you up the ridge line to a lovely clearing where you can enjoy the partial views of the Daintree River and get some perspective of the lay of the land. The pleasant flat area is an ideal place for a picnic, or relaxing amongst the sounds and sights of the rainforest. Seasonally dependent wildlife include a variety of butterfly species, Rainbow Bee-eaters and Wompoo Fruit doves amongst others. Remember to always carry water with you, wear appropriate footwear and it pays to walk with a buddy on the Intrepid Trail.
PRIVATE DINING EXPERIENCE
Our signature private dining experience - 'Dining in the Rainforest’ - is perfect for any guests celebrating a special occasion at the Daintree Ecolodge. An intimate degustation dinner is served on a private pontoon by the edge of the lagoon. The breathtaking and pure rainforest environment is the stunning backdrop to a locally-inspired seasonal menu. With a hint of native ingredients, the culinary riches of this region will be highlighted throughout the dinner. A six course degustation dinner on the rainforest pontoon is $170 per person, or $235 per person when paired to Sommelier-chosen wines. Bookings are essential and private dining is limited to one couple per evening.

DAINTREE RIVER CRUISE
The mighty Daintree River winds its way through the ancient Daintree Rainforest and this densely populated mangrove estuary is home to an abundance of wildlife and incredible scenery that dates back thousands upon thousands of years. A large population of crocodiles reside in the Daintree River together with an amazing array of birdlife, tree snakes, frogs and some impressive spiders (all seen from the safety of your boat). A variety of operators offer a one hour day cruise or a two hour sunrise/sunset cruise and their highly knowledgeable guides will help you spot wildlife in their natural habitat. The Daintree Jetty is a short 5 minute drive from the lodge.
WALKABOUT CULTURAL ADVENTURES
Explore Kuku Yalanji country, the only place in the world where two World Heritage-listed sites meet (the Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef) and share the cultural connection the local Indigenous people have with their land on a full or half day cultural tour. Learn about the precious environment, different bush foods and medicines. Sample some seasonal bush tucker while appreciating the history, culture and traditions of their Indigenous people. Walkabout Cultural Adventures offers pick-up from the Daintree Ecolodge (subject to availability).
WATERFALL & DAINTREE ADVENTURE
This exclusive, small group Daintree Rainforest and Cassowary Falls adventure tour is on a magnificent private property, located in the Daintree Valley of tropical North Queensland. It includes an all-action ATV ride and Army Truck rainforest ride, crossing creeks and rivers with jaw dropping views. Experienced guides share their knowledge during the tour. The highlight is swimming at the stunning Cassowary Falls, one of the few places it’s safe to swim in the Daintree (no crocodiles here). This one is for people of all ages who love adventure, nature and the thrill of getting off-road. Includes transfers from Daintree Village.
RIVER DRIFT SNORKELLING
Within an ancient rainforest setting, step into the cool, crystal-clear waters of the Mossman River and drift on a personal floatation device downstream and discover life beneath the surface. Watch fish dart in and around the river stones and keep your eyes out for the occasional turtle. This family-friendly tour is the perfect way to stay cool in the hot tropics and is a great introduction to snorkelling before heading out on the reef. Small children (and adults) can journey down the river on large river sleds. The River Drift Snorkelling Tour is operated by Back Country Bliss and departs from Port Douglas, a 45-minute drive from the Daintree Ecolodge.
SNORKELLING & SCUBA DIVING
The world's largest and most famous coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef, is right on our doorstep. Half day and full day snorkelling and scuba diving adventures to the Great Barrier Reef depart from either Cape Tribulation (a 1 hour 15 minute drive from the Daintree Ecolodge which requires a ferry crossing) or Port Douglas Marina (a 45-minute drive from the Daintree Ecolodge). Visit the Low Isles, home to over 150 species of corals, vibrant fish species and a significant green turtle habitat too. There's a snorkel and dive tour to suit everyone (even those who don't want to get wet), so let us help you choose the most suitable operator for the experience you are seeking.
MOSSMAN GORGE EXPERIENCE
Nestled in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge is a hidden gem that can be explored in a number of ways! Join a guided Dreamtime Walk, conducted by the local Kuku Yalanji Indigenous people, to gain a deeper insight into the ancient flora and fauna of the rainforest and learn about traditional plant uses and the Kuku Yalanji culture. Or, take in the towering rainforest, crystal-clear streams, striking mountains, and boulder-strewn gorge at your own pace on a self-guided walk. We recommend that you pack a picnic hamper from the Daintree Ecolodge and enjoy lunch by one of the many waterholes as you appreciate the wonders of your lush rainforest surrounds. Mossman Gorge is a 40-minute drive south from the Daintree Ecolodge.
FAR NORTH ESCAPE TOURS

HORSE RIDING
Explore the unrivalled beauty of Cape Tribulation on horseback with Cape Trib Horse Rides. Departing from the stables, follow your guide through the majestic Daintree Rainforest. Discover an abundance of local flora and fauna as you weave through the rainforest and across several creek crossings on your way to Myall Beach. SCENIC HELICOPTER FLIGHT
From Port Douglas, take to the skies with Nautilus Aviation and witness the sharp contrasts of the lush emerald foliage of the Daintree Rainforest against the aquamarine waters of the Great Barrier Reef on scenic helicopter flight of the region. DAINTREE FISHING
The Daintree River and its coastline are teeming with mangrove jack, fingermark, trevally, barramundi and mud crab (when in season). Get all the insider knowledge and expertise with a local fishing guide. Choose from half-day or full-day fishing adventures on the Daintree River or try your hand at hooking a barramundi at the local 'barra' farm, located only a 10 minute drive from the lodge.
SUNSET SAIL
Soak up the peace and tranquillity of a tropical sunset over the Coral Sea as you sail along the coast of Port Douglas on board a first-class sailing catamaran. Take in the ambient music, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and the spectacular mountain views whilst enjoying a welcome drink and delicious canapés. RAINFOREST ZIPLINE TOUR
Take your Daintree Rainforest adventure to new heights with an incredible zipline canopy tour. Soar across 9 ziplines, spanning 15 to 130 metres long and up to 15 metres above the ground. Enjoy the panoramic views as you fly above the ancient, World Heritage-listed rainforest. Take in the stunning scenery from the suspended bridges and timber walkways. The exhilarating Cape Tribulation zipline experience is approximately a 2-hour guided tour, suitable for ages 3 years and up (an adult must accompany children aged 3-12 years). TROPICAL FRUIT TASTINGS
Discover the delicious flavours of the Daintree on a tour that lets you taste, touch, smell and enjoy. The Cape Trib Farm Fruit Tasting Tour offers you the chance to learn about the origins, uses, legends and myths of exotic fruits, like the rich chocolate pudding fruit, creamy mamey sapote, rare pangium edule (football fruit) and notorious durians. See where the fruit is grown in the foothills of the Daintree Rainforest. Foodies love this tour and the daily fruit menu will be decided by what's in season. FAMOUS DAINTREE ICE CREAM
Trying delicious natural ice cream in the Daintree Rainforest is something that we recommend all our guests do, at least once. The Daintree Ice Cream Company use organically grown fruit and the finest local ingredients to flavour their tropical frozen treats. You can take a self-guided walk around the 22-acre orchard, where over 15 species of exotic fruit trees are grown, and try their handmade ice cream, gelatos and sorbets. Head to 1819R Cape Tribulation Road, Diwan QLD 4873 - when you're driving, look out for the sign 14km north of the Daintree Ferry, on the left. This could be the most scenic spot that you've ever enjoyed an ice cream!
